Mullygrubs. Now there’s a 50-cent word.
It’s also a word I was unfamiliar with. Till today.
It means grumpiness. Basically. The term seems carry psychological baggage. It’s derived from an even more archaic term — megrims, which means a fit of depression.
Mullygrubs is a fitting term for this time of year. For a lot of folks, the holidays are more stressful than divorce. Or being a Cleveland Browns fan.
By the way, 50-cent words are worth more than $20 these days. The term dates back to the telegraph era — the 1830s - 1860s — when you were charged by the word for sending telegraphs. The longer the word, the more it cost to send.
