Anytime the ice cracks it's scary. Being alone makes it even more so.

You don't even hear the crack till you're in. THAT'S what's scary. I've grown older and wiser and pick my trips accordingly now.

That was an early winter canoeing adventure and probably my first solo trip. I've learned much since then. Including how to watch the water for signs that the window to paddle is closing.
